IIT Madras Receives ₹228 Crore Donation from Alumnus Dr. Krishna Chivukula

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has received largest single donation in its history, amounting to ₹228 crore, from its Alumnus, Dr. Krishna Chivukula (MTech, 1970). This donation is among the largest ever given to an educational institution in India and is set to significantly enhance the institute's research, support for international students, and scholarship programs.
During a special event on campus, the institute honored Dr. Chivukula by naming an academic block the ‘Krishna Chivukula Block’.
Dr. Chivukula, who introduced the innovative Metal Injection Molding (MIM) technology to India in 1997, is the founder and CEO of Indo US MIM Tec, a leader in MIM technology with a projected turnover of nearly ₹1,000 crore. His contributions to technology and business have been widely recognized, including receiving the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Madras in 2015.
Addressing the press, Prof. V. Kamakoti remarked, “Dr. Krishna Chivukula's generous donation underscores the timeless value of education and his enduring connection to his alma mater. This contribution will provide immense benefits to future generations of students.”
Dr. Chivukula expressed his motivation, stating, “My time at IIT Madras was transformative, and I am pleased to give back in a meaningful way. This donation is one of the largest single contributions to an Indian university, reflecting my commitment to supporting the next generation of scholars and innovators.”

Yes, a full-time four-year BTech course is available at IIT Madras. Admission to this course is completely entrance-based. Candidates can pursue BTech course across various popular specialisations, including Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace3 Engineering, CSE, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, etc. IIT Madras BTech admission are offered on total 1,195 seats through a common admission process. Candidates are selected based on valid JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced scores.
