IIT Roorkee and AFMS Collaborate to Enhance Medical Support

A significant partnership was formalised between the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) and the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement was signed by Lt Gen SK Singh, Director General (Org & Pers), on behalf of the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, and Prof Kamal Kishore Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee.

This MoU indicates a new era of cooperation aimed at fostering advanced biomedical research with the objective of enhancing medical support in combat scenarios and elevating the standard of patient care provided to the armed forces personnel. The collaboration extends beyond research, embracing a faculty exchange program, the undertaking of joint academic activities, and the promotion of startups within the healthcare domain. 

This comprehensive approach underscores a mutual commitment to innovation and excellence in medical support and healthcare solutions for serving personnel. Under this MoU, Armed Forces Medical Services will be able to utilise the expertise of IIT Roorkee in various fields like, development of novel medical devices, robotics, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence and machine learning. 

During the event, Lt Gen Daljit Singh, the Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services, stressed the importance of the partnership with IIT Roorkee, as a significant step towards advancing the future of medical care in both combat and peacetime settings for the Armed Forces. Prof Kamal Kishore Pant, representing IIT Roorkee, underscored the institute's prioritisation of medical and defense-related research projects, expressing optimism for the successful outcomes expected from this collaboration.
