IIT Roorkee, IIT Bhilai Signs MoU for Tribal Research Advancement

IIT Roorkee and IIT Bhilai, two Indian Institutes of Technology, have signed an agreement to fortify their academic and research collaboration. This partnership is strategically geared towards conserving and advancing Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) while striving to bolster socio-economic development in tribal areas. It places emphasis on researching traditional medicinal plants, studying tribal cultures, examining agricultural practices specific to tribal regions, and promoting financial literacy among tribal communities.

At IIT Bhilai, the heads of both institutions, Professor K K Pant, Director of IIT Roorkee, and Professor Rajiv Prakash, Director of IIT Bhilai, formally signed the MoU. The collaboration represents a significant stride towards fostering awareness among the youth about Indian culture and heritage, aligning with the Government of India’s ambitious vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.

Apart from this, the institutes highlighted that this partnership will actively align with the objectives laid out in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, specifically focusing on integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into the education framework.

Knowledge of India (IKS)

Indian Knowledge Systems encompass the understanding of ancient India's contributions to modern India, encompassing its successes, challenges, and a forward-looking perspective on India's aspirations in education, health, environment, and more. This collaboration further resonates with the Prime Minister's vision of Ek Bharath Shreshtha Bharat.

As part of the agreement, both institutions will exchange knowledge and promote Indian culture, Indian knowledge systems and develop projects on sustainable and rural development, ancient Indian science, fintech, health science, agriculture, artificial intelligence, complementary and alternative medicine, life management, environment, renewable energy, food processing, tourism management, languages, peace and conciliation, music, humanities and common interest.
