In order to support the differently-abled students amidst the COVID-19 lockdown, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee took a much-needed initiative. IIT Roorkee’s Anushruti Academy for the Deaf is offering online lessons for hearing impaired students coming from the economically backward sections of the society.

According to the reports, the prominent technology institute made all the arrangements to facilitate these students. In an official statement released by the institute, IIT Roorkee stated that it arranged the Internet as well as smartphones for these students to provide e-learning and prevent academic loss among them.

To help the students inculcate the lessons with the active support of their parents, IIT Roorkee instructors recorded videos for them. The teacher-parent community’s efficient working and active support helped to resolve the initial hiccups in the e-learning process. The statement further reveals that online classes not only focus on academics but also work on imparting vocational skills and training in music to equip these students for future jobs.

The institute is working hard to provide an efficient learning experience to the students. To identify the critical gaps and bridge the same, IIT Roorkee also put in place a weekly feedback mechanism in the e-learning process.
