Indian Maritime University, IIT Madras sign pact for student, faculty exchange programme
The institutes will conduct joint research activities, joint PhD and online MTech programmes besides developing long and short-term courses.
The Indian Maritime University (IMU) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras have signed an agreement for collaboration of faculty members and exchange of students under the Maritime India Vision 2030 initiative. The central institutions will conduct joint research activities, joint PhD and online MTech programmes besides developing long and short-term courses. The institutions will conduct programmes to build capacity of industries.
IMU in-charge Dean Rajoo Balaji and K Murali, faculty in the Department of Ocean Engineering at IIT Madras, signed the agreement. Senior officials from both institutions were present on the occasion.
Centre for Innovation inaugurated at IIT Madras
Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India, inaugurated the Centre for Innovation (CFI) at IIT Madras in the presence of Thiru K Ponmudy, Minister for Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, Prof V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras, and V Shankar, Founder, CAMS Pvt Ltd and Distinguished Alumnus Awardee of IIT Madras.
The new facility is located in the recently constructed Sudha and Shankar Innovation Hub, which is dedicated to supporting and encouraging Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) activities of the students and researchers. The Sudha and Shankar Innovation Hub is IIT Madras’ first architect-designed built space dedicated to student-led activities. It is funded by both alumni and government contributions besides the institute.
Besides CFI, the Sudha and Shankar Innovation Hub also hosts Nirmaan, a pre-incubator that supports to convert student-led technology projects into successful start-ups while the Gopalakrishnan Deshpande Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (GDC) supported by Jaishree and Desh Deshpande and Kris Gopalakrishnan, the Institute’s main body for faculty, staff and students to gain ‘hands-on’ training in and exposure to start-up creation.
