Industry Association Seeks Cost Reduction, Tax Reforms in Education Sector Ahead of Union Budget 2025

Ahead of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s presentation of the Union Budget 2025-26 on February 1, the WTC Business & Industry Association has urged the government to prioritize cost reduction and tax reforms in the education sector. The association has submitted a detailed wishlist highlighting key areas for modernization and transformation in the education system.
Key Expectations from Union Budget 2025
The education sector has outlined several crucial areas that require immediate attention and financial allocation:
Integration of Technology in Education – A push for incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning into curricula, along with significant investments in digital infrastructure to enhance internet connectivity in rural areas and provide affordable devices to students.
Reducing Educational Costs – Stakeholders emphasize the need for measures that make quality education more affordable and accessible to a broader population.
Fostering Industry-Academia Partnerships – Strengthening collaborations between educational institutions and industries to align curricula with market demands and equip students with industry-relevant skills.
Addressing the Digital Divide – Bridging the gap in digital infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, to ensure students from remote locations have access to quality educational resources.
Tax Reforms and Skill Development – Introducing tax incentives and expanding work-integrated learning programs to bridge the skill-employability gap. This includes tax benefits for companies investing in AI training and industry-oriented learning initiatives.
Commenting on the initiative, Pradeep Agrawal, President, WTC Business & Industry Association stated, “Our aim is to create a roadmap for an inclusive and modern education system that prepares India’s youth for a globally competitive environment. The recommendations reflect a collective vision to bridge gaps, foster innovation, and enhance education quality.”
