JEE Advanced 2024 Exam Date Clashing with BITSAT Session 1 Date

The upcoming Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced 2024) exam and Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT 2024) session 1 exam are scheduled on the same date, leading to a clash between the two popular entrance exams.

JEE Advanced 2024, for admission at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), will be conducted on May 26 as announced by IIT Madras in November 2023. BITS Pilani, on the other hand, has scheduled session 1 of BITSAT 2024 for admission to BE, BPharm, and MSc programmes from May 21 to 26, the last date of which clashes with the JEE Advanced exam 2024. BITSAT session 2 is scheduled from June 22-26, which has raised concerns among aspirants as it will be taking place after the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process, which will tentatively commence on June 10.

According to the JEE Advanced notification, the JEE Advanced Paper 1 will take place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, while the JEE Advanced Paper 2 will be held from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The BITSAT notification also states that the exam will be conducted in two slots each day. The first slot is scheduled from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, and the second slot will take place from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

With the clashes in dates of the two exams, there is no update yet on the postponement of JEE Advanced or BITSAT exam 2024.

BITS Pilani will close the registration process for the entrance exam on April 11, whereas IIT Madras will begin the application process on April 21. Male students who wish to apply for both BITSAT sessions 1 and 2 will have to pay a hefty amount of INR 5,400, while female students will have to deposit INR 4,400. The comparison with other engineering entrance exams, wherein students have to pay a maximum of INR 1,000 per person, has led many students to question the charges. However, BITS is charging the same application fee as last year. The registration fee for JEE Advanced 2024 has been increased from INR 2,900 to INR 3,200 for general category candidates. However, SC, ST, PwD, and female candidates will have to pay INR 1,600.

The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2024 state that the top 2,50,000 candidates in various categories based on their performance in JEE Main 2024 BE, BTech paper will be eligible to apply. In a recent development, IIT Madras has introduced the sports quota for admission to undergraduate (UG) programmes. Students who have qualified in JEE Main 2024 and have won at least one medal in any national or international-level sports competition in the last four years will be considered under ‘Sports Excellence Admission’ (SEA).
