JEE Main 2020: NTA has increased the number of exam centres for safely conducting NEET and JEE Mains next month. In other measures to ensure students’ safety, alternate seating plan at centres, fewer candidates in a room, and staggered entry and exit will be followed.
In a statement by the National Testing Agency (NTA), it has been said that the number of examination centres for JEE Main has been increased from 570 to 660. Moreover, the number of shifts are 12 for the exam scheduled on September 1-6 that in previous years was eight. The number of candidates per shift has also been reduced to 85,000 that in the previous year used to be 1.32 lakh
AT JEE Main exam centres, 24 students used to sit to take the test which now has been reduced to 12. Candidates will sit alternatively in rooms/halls to follow social distancing.
Explaining various arrangements for students’ safety, NTA said, "Adequate arrangements have also been made outside examination centres to enable candidates to stand with adequate social distancing while waiting. Candidates have also been issued an advisory guiding them about the 'Dos and Don'ts' for proper social distancing," the NTA said.
Despite these measures and MHRD’s clarification on conducting the JEE Main, several opposition leaders in India have demanded that the exams be postponed. Last week, the Supreme Court had dismissed a plea seeking postponement of the two exams amid a spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases, saying the precious year of students "cannot be wasted" and life has to go on.
