JEE Main 2023: Education Minister may relax 75% eligibility criteria
JEE Main 2023: The application process for JEE Main 2023 is currently open and will continue till January 12, notwithstanding the ongoing conflict between students and authorities.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan may relax the eligibility criteria for Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main, especially the requirement of 75 per cent marks in Class 12 exams.
In a response to Member of Parliament Karti Chidambaram, the Minister wrote, “Thank you for your letter dated 2nd December 2022 and 15th December 2022, regarding a one-time exemption to relax the eligibility criteria for all students appearing for the JEE Main and advanced exams in 2023. The matter has been sent to the concerned department for necessary action.”
He wrote, “I would like to bring to your attention concerns raised by students who appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains and Advanced in 2022. These aspirants studied hard to secure an admission into India’s leading engineering institutes, however, several hurdles which were completely outside their control, denied them a fair opportunity at the exam.”
MP took to Twitter to share Education Minister’s response. He tweeted, “The Education Minister has responded to my letter requesting immediate relaxation in the eligibility criteria for #JEE2023. I hope the Govt will look into the requests and concerns of aggrieved students.”
Students have been demanding relaxation in eligibility criteria for JEE Main 2023. Students have filed a petition in the Bombay High court seeking the relaxation in eligibility criteria which demands exam takers to have minimum of 75 per cent marks in Class 12 exams.
The petition was filed by activist Anubha Srivastava Sahai on December 26. It stated that the Class 12 pre-board exams, viva voce of CBSE, ICSE and other state boards are scheduled to be held in January. The clash between JEE Main 2023 and Class 12 pre-board exams will result in less number of students appearing for JEE Main 2023 Session 1. The plea also mentions that the notification for the JEE Mains exam was issued on short notice and same would cause difficulties to students.
The JEE Main 2023 first session is scheduled to be held between January 24 and 31, 2023, while the JEE Main second session is scheduled between April 6 and 12, 2023.
