CSAB Introduces Reserved Seats and Special Support for North East Candidates

To encourage students from the North-Eastern (NE) states to register for the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main 2025 session 2, the Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2025 hosted a press conference at the Kohima Press Club. To increase participation from North-Eastern students, the CSAB 2025 Organising Committee, led by Prof. Anindya Basu (Chairman, Local Organising Committee) and supported by Prof. Pankaj Kumar Sa (Vice-Chairman) and Prof. Surajit Das (CSAB-2025 Media Representative), along with a representative from NIT Nagaland, hosted a press conference. The event emphasised how JEE Main can serve as a gateway to premier engineering institutions and open doors to promising career opportunities for students in the Northeast.

24,000+ Seats in NITs: 2,000 Reserved for NE Students

With nearly 24,000 seats available across National Institutes of Technology (NITs) in India every year, the 2025 session will see approximately 2,000 seats reserved specifically under the State Quota for the NIT system in the NE states. Additionally, around 740 seats will be allocated under the North East University of Technology (NEUT) category, providing greater opportunities for students in the region to gain access to top-tier engineering institutions in India. This initiative aims to offer targeted support and improve participation from the North-East, ensuring wider access to educational opportunities.

In a message shared by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Chair, CSAB 2025, stated, “The students of Nagaland have showcased immense potential and remarkable talent across various fields of career. As the registration window for JEE Main is now open, I encourage all students from Nagaland to take advantage of the opportunity and register for the JEE Main 2025 Examination. With focused study, practice, and time management, students can perform well and succeed that will open doors to top institutions through the CSAB 2025 counselling process, helping them secure admission in preferred NIT+ system institutions, based on eligibility. CSAB 2025 team will provide guidance and support during each counselling round with a counselling centre located at the state and multilingual tele help desk located centrally.”

Challenges faced by students from the North-East, CSAB provides customised opportunities through specialised counselling rounds:

  • CSAB-NEUT Round: Designates seats in AICTE-approved institutes across India for students from North-Eastern states and Union Territories with limited access to technical education.
  • CSAB Special Round: Offers a second opportunity for candidates who were unable to secure a seat through JoSAA/CSAB counselling, enabling them to gain admission to NIT+ institutions.

Seat Allocation Process for JEE Main Qualified Candidates

After qualifying for JEE Main, candidates can take part in the seat allocation process, which begins with five JoSAA-2025 rounds for IITs and the NIT+ system. This is followed by two CSAB Special Rounds to fill any remaining vacant seats. Eligible candidates can register for counselling through the official websites csab.nic.in and josaa.nic.in.

Benefits of the JoSAA/CSAB Counselling Process

The JoSAA/CSAB counselling process offers numerous advantages to aspiring engineering students:

  • Exclusive Seat Reservations: Reserved seats for North-Eastern students ensure access to premier institutions.
  • Multiple Admission Opportunities: Two CSAB Special Rounds provide additional chances for securing a seat.
  • Streamlined & Accessible Process: Online registration, document verification, and seat allotment with multilingual support for ease of access.
  • Wide Range of Course Options: Choose from diverse programs, including core disciplines like Civil and Mechanical Engineering, as well as emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Data Science.
  • Strong Career Prospects: Graduates from IITs, NITs, and other top institutes frequently secure positions in leading industries, government agencies, and startups.

CSAB 2025: Strengthening Outreach to Boost North-East Participation

The CSAB team seeks the support of local media in raising awareness and encouraging more students from Nagaland to appear for JEE Main 2025. To enhance participation from North-Eastern states, CSAB 2025 is implementing the following key initiatives:

  • Increasing Awareness & Participation: Educating students about JEE Main, reservation policies, and the benefits of the home state quota to ensure they make informed decisions.
  • Expanding Media Outreach: Leveraging press releases, conferences, and media campaigns to highlight the registration process and the significance of JEE Main. A dedicated press conference will be held in Mizoram on February 14, 2025, to further these efforts.

JEE Main: Pathway to Premier Engineering Institutes

JEE Main serves as the gateway to some of India’s best technical institutions, collectively known as the NIT+ system, which includes:

  • 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs)
  • 26 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)
  • 3 Schools of Planning and Architecture (SPAs)
  • 37 Government-Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)
  • 1 Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur
