JEE Main 2023: #remove75percentagecriteria trends as students seek removal of 75% eligibility criteria
The National Testing Agency had restored the eligibility criteria for 2023 academic session after relaxing it for two years in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, students were demanding the testing agency to provide them relief for another year.
Even though the National Testing Agency (NTA) has relaxed 75 per cent eligibility criteria for top 20 percentile scorers of all boards, the news disappointed several aspirants, especially dropper students. They have taken to Twitter and started hashtags such as #remove75percentagecriteria , #JusticeForDroppers and #75goback requesting removal of eligibility criteria and postponement of the exam.
According to the JEE Main 2023 information brochure released by the National Testing Agency (NTA), apart from the All-India rank of the candidate in the national entrance test for engineering admissions, the aspirants are required to score 75 per cent and above in Class 12 or figured among the top 20 percentile candidates of the respective board in order to become eligible for admission. For Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, the qualifying aggregate score was declared 65 per cent and above.
The aspirants are not only demanding the JEE Main Session 1 to be held in April, but also to drop the stringent eligibility criteria. Many of them have tagged the NTA, Education Minister and Prime Minister in their Twitter posts. While one Twitter user wrote, โWhen You are conducting #JEEMains2023 that will be based on Merit itself then why the Speed Breaker of 75% eligibility criteria or Top percentile? Think of the Marking system of different Boards and Allow All 12th Passed to write the #JEEMains #No75PercentCriteriaPlease,โ while another tweeted, โSir what about cbse students ...our exam were cancelled in 2021 and we didn't have more than 75% plzzz hear out voice...plzzz remove 75% criteria for dropper students @dpradhanbjp @EduMinOfIndia @IITGuwahati @PMOIndia.โ
Echoing similar concern, a student wrote, โWhat about cbse icse and some other boards students whose top20%ile goes more than 75 ?? Plz remove 75% criteria for DROPPERS PLZ @DG_NTA @IITGuwahati @dpradhanbjp @PMOIndia,โ another tweeted, โDemand toh 75% hatane ki thi. 20 percentile add karne ki nahi thi #75goback."
It is to noted that the JEE Main 2023 registration process will conclude on January 12, 2023. The first session of the JEE Main 2023 is scheduled to be held between January 24 and 31.
