What is Top 20 Percentile rule and how is it calculated?

It is a criterion that is used to determine the eligibility of candidates for admission to the IITs and NIT+ system. As per this rule, candidates should score within the top 20 percentile of their respective boards or qualify for the JEE Advanced examination to be eligible for admission. That is, percentile cut-off marks represent the minimum marks required by a candidate to be among the twenty percent of candidates. It is calculated by considering the marks obtained by candidates in their respective board examinations. However, each board determines the minimum marks required to be in the top 20 percentile.
