The Department of Collegiate and Technical Education has chosen two courses, tourism & hospitality and cyber security, which will be offered in partnership with Montgomery County Community College, Pennsylvania.
To internationalise higher education on the lines of the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE) of the Government of Karnataka in partnership with Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), Pennsylvania, the United States, has launched the ‘Integrated Twinning Programme’ for polytechnic students in tourism and hospitality and cybersecurity. This initiative is a first-of-its-kind in India.
Programmes to be offered at Bengaluru polytechnic college
Minister for Higher Education and Skill Development CN Ashwatha Narayan said the programme would be offered at Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic College, Bengaluru, from the current academic year.
“As per the agreement signed between the DCTE and the MCCC, an associate degree will be awarded to students who complete this course,” the minister said.
100% scholarship for all students
The fees for each student for the three-year courses would be around INR 20 lakh (including tuition fees, boarding and lodging, local travel, and medical insurance) and it would be completely borne by the Government of Karnataka in the form of 100 per cent scholarship for all students enrolled into the programme, the minister said.
24 seats each for both courses
The programme will have an intake of 24 students each for both courses for the 2021-22 academic year and students will complete the first year of study as per the C20 curriculum at Sri Jayachamarajendra Polytechnic College along with some preparatory coursework in English language and mathematics.
Students will have full access to MCCC’s student support services, including 24/7 online tutoring, library resources, academic advising and wellness support as well as MCCC’s athletics, clubs and organisations.
After successful completion of the programme, students will be awarded an associate degree by the MCCC and will be required to make a choice of either enrolling for a one-year paid apprenticeship at Montgomery or getting a lateral entry into an undergraduate programme at any of the 30 transfer partner institutions in the US.
