KCET 2024: Earlier, the State Government clarified that out-of-syllabus questions in KCET 2024 have been removed, and there will be no retest. However, this incident has raised many questions about KEA's role. Check details here

Karnataka Exams Authority's Role Questioned in 'Out-of-Syllabus' Debacle

KCET 2024: The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) made headlines for including questions from out-of-syllabus questions based on deleted chapters of the II PU course in the KCET papers. In response to the incident, the higher education department announced plans to introduce a separate standard operating procedure (SOP) for KEA.

Experts argue that the original purpose of establishing the CET cell (later renamed KEA) has been gradually weakened over the years. Since its inception in 1994, the CET system has served as a blueprint for many states, attracting delegations from abroad to study its workings in Karnataka.

Karnataka Exams Authority's Role Questioned

As per the Deccan Chronicle report, during M. Veerappa Moily's tenure as chief minister, the establishment of the CET cell occurred. Moily stated that it has since lost its focus, citing the recruitment examinations for various departments currently conducted by KEA.

KEA Lost Its Focus

“When I was CM, we decided to set up a dedicated cell to conduct a Common Entrance Test for admission to professional courses, mainly to help poor meritorious students and to abolish capitation fees. Now, the authority conducts recruitment exams for departments. It has lost its focus on professional courses,” M. Veerappa Moily said.

He further added, “When we started CET, it was systematic and transparent. The KEA should be exclusive to make admissions to professional courses, to avoid manipulations and injustice to students.”
