KEAM 2024: CEE Planning to Hold Exam as Computer Based Test; Know Expected Changes Here
Talks to convert the KEAM offline pen and paper based test to a computer based test were held last year too. However, the transition did not happen back then due to technical difficulties, as the reports stated.
Reports suggest that KEAM will be held as a computer based exam from 2024. As per various sources, preliminary steps to convert KEAM into a computer-based exam have begun. Also, the CEE has put up a notice on their official website inviting an Expression of Interest (EOI) from agencies having Registered Offices or Branches in Kerala, capable of conducting Computer Based Test on a large scale in a professional manner for the Engineering Entrance Examination Kerala. (Read notice).
The Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) entrance exam is held in a traditional manner where the candidates record answers to multiple-choice questions in an Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheet. This is later scanned at the CEE’s office to prepare the score. KEAM is taken by 1.2 lakh candidates every year. In 2023, the exam was taken by 1,23,623 candidates and 1,22,083 candidates took the exam in 2022.
Changes Expected in KEAM 2024
If KEAM successfully transitions to a CBT, then here are some expected changes that can happen:
- The exam might be conducted in phases, as it would not be possible to arrange over 1.2 lakh computer terminals at the same time.
- There will be an official mock test link on the website of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations two weeks prior to the actual exam date.
- The post-examination process will take less time like answer key release and result declaration. At present, over three to four weeks are required to scan the OMR sheets. Once the exam becomes computer-based, evaluation becomes faster with the scores being made available to the candidates in the shortest time.
The KEAM 2024 exam is expected to be held in May and the online KEAM application form can be released in March 2024. KEAM is usually conducted in the selected districts of Kerela, Mumbai, New Delhi and Dubai. CEE releases an online application form on the official website, cee.kerala.gov.in for eligible candidates to apply for KEAM. 10+2 passed/appearing candidates can apply for the exam to be admitted to various colleges in Kerela that are approved by the Central and State Regulatory Bodies, Universities and Government.
