Workshop on Cyber Security and Mental Health

The Ministry of Education's Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) organised a national online workshop on Mental Health and Cyber Security to engage youth. The workshop featured two key sessions: one on mental health by Dr. Rajesh Sagar, Professor in the Psychiatry Department at AIIMS Delhi, and another on cyber security by Dr. Rashmi Sharma Yadav, DCP at the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre, MHA. Broadcast live on YouTube, the event reached over 2 million students and educators across the nation.

Archana Sharma Awasthi, Joint Secretary of DoSEL, emphasised the National Education Policy 2020’s commitment to prioritising student well-being. She underscored the critical importance of mental health for both students and educators, while also highlighting the growing threat of cybercrime. Awasthi urged everyone to carefully heed the advice of experts, not only to safeguard their mental health but also to protect themselves from becoming victims of cybercrime in today’s increasingly digital world.

Importance of Cyber Security

Dr. Rashmi Sharma Yadav emphasised the critical importance of cyber hygiene and security for children. She detailed preventive measures to combat cyberbullying, grooming, and fraudulent online gaming applications. Dr. Yadav encouraged students to report cyber fraud via the helpline 1930 or through @cyberdost, while stressing the need for responsible internet use, parental awareness, and the protection of personal information. Both experts urged students to openly share any concerns with trusted elders, such as parents and teachers, to ensure their safety online.
