NIT Goa: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the new permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa via a virtual ceremony tomorrow. Spanning an area of 70,750 square meters, the campus was constructed for Rs 390.83 crore. Check details here

PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate NIT Goa Campus Tomorrow

NIT Goa Campus: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new permanent campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa virtually tomorrow: February 6, 2024. The new campus has been set up of 70750 sqm, with construction cost of INR 390.83 crore. 

NIT Goa has operated from a temporary location within the Goa Engineering College, Farmagudi, since its establishment in 2010. The foundation stone for its new campus was laid by the late Chief Minister of Goa, Manohar Parrikar, on December 15, 2018, with Prakash Javadekar, the former Union Human Resource Development Minister, in attendance. Parrikar's vision was to create an institution of national significance within the state.

The institute started taking classes for the even semester from January 8 at the permanent campus. Hostel accommodation has been made available only for the students who had opted for the hostel facility during the odd semester of academic year (AY) 2023-24. 

The construction of the campus at Cuncolim, South Goa with the help of the ministry of education was completed in 2023. NIT Goa can accommodate 1,260 students. The new campus also provides facilities like tutorial complex, departmental complex, seminar complex, administrative complex, hostels, health centre, staff quarters, amenity centre, and sports ground among other utilities.

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradesh, Goa governor Sreedharan Pillai, chief minister Pramod Sawant, Union minister of state for ports, shipping, waterways and tourism Shripad Naik; MP of South Goa Francisco Sardinha; and Leader of Opposition and MLA from Cuncolim Yuri Alemao will also be present during the inaugural event.
