Prioritise Class 12 Revaluation for IIT aspirants: HRD Ministry to State Boards
If you an IIT aspirant and planning to take JEE, it's good news for you. According to latest information, the HRD Ministry has asked the State education boards to give priority to the revaluation applications of aspirants planning to take the JEE(Joint Entrance Examination) from next year onwards. The idea is to give future engineers a fair chance to apply to the leading engineering colleges of the country. Also, the move is expected to reduce the chance of aspirants wasting one year due to the delay in revaluation of their board exam papers.
JEE Main 2016 results out, check details!
If Ministry officials are to be believed, most of the state boards are ready and open to the idea. Class 12th marks hold vital importance for students and their admissions to IITs(Indian Institutes of Technology), NITs(National Institutes of Technology) and other GFTIs(Government Funded Technical Institutes) as 40% weightage is given to Class 12th board marks while evaluating entrance test results.
In the last few years, there have been instances where a student's overall ranking has improved drastically due to revaluation. Subsequently, there have been cases where a student has missed taking JEE after failing Class 12. However, after a recheck, they managed to get through.
One of the officials from the HRD Ministry was quoted as saying," It is yet to be finalized but the ministry has suggested the boards to give such students priority so that their results can be finalized before submission to JEE".
He further added, " If revaluation results are declared on priority, we can save a student’s year. Boards were requested to look into the matter during a recent meet".
Besides this, the HRD Ministry has also requested the state boards to announce Class 12 results before May 31 so that admissions to engineering colleges are not delayed.
In 2015, admissions to IITs and NITs have been delayed due to late submission of rank lists by state boards as they were late in announcing the results.
Admissions to IITs are based on JEE Advanced, while admissions to NITs and other engineering institutes in the country is through JEE Main.
