Prof Sundar S appointed new Director of NIT Mizoram

Prof Sundar S from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has been appointed as the new Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Mizoram. He was the Head of the Department of Mathematics, IIT Madras, from 2017 to 2020. 

His areas of interest include numerics for PDEs and mathematical modelling and numerical simulation. He took over the role from Prof Rajat Gupta, who joined as the Director of NIT Mizoram on July 3, 2017. 

Prof Sundar has done his Bsc in mathematics from University of Madras in 1982 and completed MSc in applied mathematics from Anna University in 1984. He went on to complete his PhD in mathematics from IIT Madras in 1989.

NIT Mizoram was established in 2010. It is counted as an institute of national importance by an Act of Parliament. NIT Mizoram is an autonomous university having its courses affiliated with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Currently, the university has a strength of 406 students.  

NIT Mizoram offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level programs to the students. Admission to NIT Mizoram is based on the valid score obtained by the student in Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) entrance examination. The institute has a separate and dedicated placement cell that helps students in getting the right opportunities regularly.  

NIT Mizoram concluded its placement drive with a record placement percentage of 58. The highest numbers of job offers were bagged by BTech computer science engineering batch. The top recruiters of NIT Mizoram placements were Intellect, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Mphasis, Polaris, L&T, Wipro, inCourage, etc.
