Students demand re-conduct of UGC NET after facing technical glitches at NIT Calicut
UGC NET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which also conducts the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). Several complaints of server issues and other technical glitches at various centres across India during Session 1 of the JEE Main exam in June.
National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut in Kattangal witnessed the suspension of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) due to a technical glitch. At the NIT Calicut centre, a server failure stopped the exam from starting at the scheduled time of 9 am. It stayed suspended until 12 pm. The glitch resulted in students’ protests after more than one hundred students who were supposed to write their exam at the centre missed their chance due to the technical glitch. Question over the arrangement of the exam and the irresponsibility of the authority were raised.
Postpone exam to another date
After facing a severe technical glitch, students started protesting demanding the exam be postponed to another date for them, according to The New Indian Express.
Various UGC aspirants expressed concerns about different reporting timings, technical errors making it impossible to begin exam and rude behavior of the organisers when the students started voicing against the arrangement.
Mass petition demanding re-conduct of UGC NET

NIT Calicut officials on their part have clarified in a statement that neither their infrastructure nor officials are responsible for the difficulties faced by the candidates. "After discussing with the NTA authorities the exam was restarted by 12 pm with 44 candidates and they were given extra time to cover for the hours they lost due to technical errors. The exam was completed by 3:15 pm. Some candidates boycotted the exam and demanded retest on another day. The NTA Observer contacted the NTA, New Delhi who rejected the demand for a retest. The 44 students finished the exam, without any further issues," NIT Calicut officials wrote in the statement.
