The scorecard of JEE Mains result 2025 session 1 will have details of NTA percentile scores for each subject and the aggregate percentile score.

NTA percentile scores are the normalized score and not the marks out of 300. Students must understand the difference between NTA percentile score and actual marks, and why JEE Mains result is calculated in percentile.

Why NTA declares result in percentile and not in marks

The process of Normalization is an established practice for compiling candidate scores across multi-session papers. Percentile scores are scores based on the relative performance of all those who appear for the examination. Normalization procedure based on Percentile Score” is used to ensure that candidates are neither benefitted nor disadvantaged due to the difficulty level of the examination across multiple shifts.

How NTA calculates percentile score?

NTA has a formula to calculate the subject-wise percentile score as well as the aggregate percentile in JEE Mains exam. The NTA percentile formula is given here:

100 x Total candidates appeared in a session with raw score equal or less than candidate

The total number of the candidates who appeared in the session

Since the percentile score of a candidate depends largely on the total number of candidates appearing in any shift, NTA distributes candidates into two sessions in a way so that each session has an approximately equal number of candidates. In the event of a more number of days or less number of shifts, the candidates are accordingly to ensure that there is no bias in the distribution of candidates who shall take the examination.
