The student who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off his hostel building mentioned the name of a classmate in the "suicide note" as responsible for his death.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of Darshan Solanki, who allegedly died by jumping off his hostel building at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, has recovered a suicide note in which the deceased accused a student of harassing and threatening him.

The SIT revealed one of the causes behind the death is caste remarks on him. Reports suggest that there are more than one names in the suicide note and Mumbai police will question the students whose names are there on the suicide note.

The police said the suicide note was found after a “detailed search” of Solanki’s room on March 3. “A team was there for more than 10 hours, and during the thorough search we found the note under the table,” he said. “On the table, there were some books and solved question papers… below the table, we found a page on which it was written, ‘… has killed me’,” he said, naming the batchmate, The Indian Express reported.

The police said they also found WhatsApp chats between Solanki and the accused batchmate. We have sent his mobile phone for forensic examination,” the police official said. “We have learnt that there was a fight between the two about a week before the incident and are checking if it is linked to the death.”

He said, “Initially, we believed that Solanki jumped to his death due to poor performance in the semester exams. However, the suicide note, which we suspect he wrote minutes before ending his life, indicates that he was harassed.”
