SVNIT reconstitutes special cell to look into complaints of caste-based discrimination
The special cell has been tasked to deal with representations received from SC/ST/OBC candidates regarding their admission, recruitment, promotion and other similar matters in the institute.
With a spate of recent student suicides at Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs), Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) has issued a circular regarding reconstitution of a special cell to look into the discrimination complaints of SC/ST/OBC students, teachers and non-teaching staff.
The circular read, “The functions of the special cell will be to implement the reservation policy for SCs/STs/OBCs in the institute, to collect data regarding the implementation of the policies in respect of admissions, appointments to teaching and non-teaching positions in the institute, to take follow up measures for achieving the objectives and targets laid down for the purpose by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.”
The special cell has been tasked to deal with representations received from SC/ST/OBC candidates regarding their admission, recruitment, promotion and other similar matters in the institute. It has to function as a grievances redressal cell for the grievances of SC/ST/OBC students and employees of the institute and render them necessary help in solving their academic as well as administrative problems.
The APPSC (Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle) IIT Bombay tweeted, “After @iitdelhi, @Media_SVNIT has also passed the mandate for the SC ST cell. Implementation of reservation in student admission and faculty recruitment will be monitored, and proper grievance redressal mechanisms along with support systems are the responsibilities of the cell. has passed the mandate for the SC/ST cell.
