SWAYAM Plus: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Launches Advanced E-Learning Platform

The Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan launched the 'SWAYAM Plus' platform. This is designed to provide courses that are focused on employability and professional development, created in collaboration with the industry partners such as L&T, Microsoft, and CISCO have contributed to developing these programmes.
The launch of SWAYAM Plus aims to boost the job readiness of both college students and individuals committed to lifelong learning. This collaboration between academia and industry merges the educational integrity of the SWAYAM platform with the practical knowledge and applicability provided by corporate partners.
IIT Madras To Operate SWAYAM Plus Platform
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will be operating the ‘SWAYAM Plus’ Platform. IIT Madras was also among the founder institutions of Swayam-NPTEL and the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) platform. Swayam-NPTEL and MOOC provide educational opportunities for learners. SWAYAM has the largest enrolment base today, with the total enrollment increasing from 31 lakh in 2017 to more than 72 lakh by the end of 2023.
SWAYAM Plus Programmes
The SWAYAM Plus platform is set to provide programmes across a variety of sectors such as manufacturing, energy, computer science and engineering, IT/ITES, management studies, healthcare, hospitality, tourism, and Indian knowledge systems. Courses are to be in local languages to empower every student in order to realize the dream of Viksit Bharat, as innovation has no language, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.
Launching the ‘SWAYAM Plus’ portal, he also said, “The National Education Policy (NEP) is on roll and for the first time, reputed industrial houses will be coming with their own academy, partnering with the UGC, esteemed education departments, and prestigious institutes like IIT Madras. All these courses will be accredited.” Going beyond STEM education, courses involving music, painting, creative arts, humanities, and liberal arts, are to be part of the Platform to bring about all-round development in our youth.
