Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are no doubt the best engineering institutes in India, but there are many other institutes that provide good engineering education and resources to students. Students can check the article to know the top 10 non-IIT colleges in India for engineering according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2022.

NIRF 2022 Ranking:  8 

NIT Tiruchirappalli offers engineering courses to all students who are eligible and have qualified JEE Main with a valid score. Students need to have studied PCM in Class12 to be eligible for admissions.  

NITK Surathkal  

Established: 1960 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 10 

NITK is one of the premier institutes that offer engineering courses. For admissions, the students will be required to qualify JEE Main and secure the required scores and cutoff determined by the authorities.

Jadavpur University, Kolkata  

Established: 1960 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 11 

Jadavpur University opens the admission process for engineering courses every year. For admissions, the students will have to qualify West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE) and secure the required marks to get selected.    

VIT Vellore 

Established: 1984 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 12 

VIT offers admissions to candidates in the engineering courses based on scores secured in the entrance examination. Students will be required to attempt and qualify VITEEE, after which the eligible candidates will be given admissions.   

NIT Rourkela 

Established: 1961 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 15 

NIT Rourkela offers admission to four-year undergraduate engineering programmes to eligible students. NIT Rourkela admits students on the basis of JEE Main scores. 

Anna University, Chennai 

Established: 1978 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 17 

Anna University is one of the top engineering institutes to which a candidate can apply based on their 10 2th standard qualifying examination.  For Anna University BTech admission, candidates are also required to appear for TNEA counselling process.  

Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai 

Established: 1993 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 18 

Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai offers a four-year BTech programme at the UG level. Admission to BTech programme is based on MHT CET score, followed by CAP Counselling, which is conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai.   

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore 

Established: 1994 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 19 

Admission to some of the engineering courses at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is entrance-based. Students need to qualify for AEEE, which is the institute entrance examination. 

NIT Warangal 

Established: 1990 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 21 

NIT Warangal is another top-ranked NIT that offers admissions into the engineering courses. Students will be required to attempt and qualify JEE Main for admissions into NIT Warangal.   

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai  

Established: 1994 

NIRF 2022 Ranking: 24 

SRM Institute of Science and Technology conducts SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination (SRMJEEE) for admission to BTech programmes. SRMJEEE is a national exam that acts as a common entrance examination for all SRM Group institutes and universities located at Kattankulathur, Ramapuram, NCR – Ghaziabad, Ramapuram Part – Vadapalani, Amravati, Haryana, and Sikkim. Candidates who are selected based on SRMJEEE marks are allotted campus and course based on course preference selected at the time of counselling. The seats are allotted only based on SRMJEEE – All India Rank and availability of seats.
