Top 10 JEE Rankers Opt for IIT Bombay; 246 Out of Top 1000 Choose the Institute in 2024 Intake
IIT Bombay has been the top choice for JEE Advanced candidates for several years. Since 2019, it has consistently attracted the highest number of JEE Advanced toppers. New Entrants Include Ved Lahoti (AIR 1) and Dwija Patel (Top-Ranked Female)
IIT Bombay continues its tradition of being the preferred choice for top JEE Advanced rankers. For the 2024-25 academic year, 246 out of the top 1000 rankers chose IIT Bombay. This trend aligns with the institute's sustained popularity over the past several years, where it consistently attracted the majority of the top 100 rankers. In 2021, more than 50% of the top 100 JEE Advanced rankers opted for IIT Bombay, and this preference has been consistent since at least 2019. The institute's reputation for excellence in engineering education and research makes it a top destination for aspiring engineers.

IIT Bombay: The Top Choice for Engineers
IIT Bombay has been the top choice for JEE Advanced candidates for several years. Since 2019, it has consistently attracted the highest number of JEE Advanced toppers. In 2021, 265 of the top 1,000 rankers chose IIT Bombay, though this number slightly declined in subsequent years with 246 in 2022 and 245 in 2023. Even among the top 100 rankers, IIT Bombay has been a preferred institution, with more than 50% of them opting for it in 2021
In 2021, IIT Bombay was chosen by 9 out of the top 10 JEE Advanced rankers, 43 out of the top 50, and over 50% of the top 100.
A similar trend was observed in previous years, such as in 2020, where 61 out of the top 100 JEE Advanced rankers selected IIT Bombay as their first preference.
In 2019, 64 of the top 100 rankers opted for IIT Bombay.
Established in 1958 as the second IIT, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is globally recognized for its leadership in engineering education and research. It was granted the status of 'Institution of Eminence' by the Ministry of Education on July 9, 2018. The institute boasts 17 academic departments, 36 centers/programs/facilities, three schools, and three interdisciplinary programs.

According to the JoSAA 2024 seat matrix, the total seats in IITs are 17760, while the number of seats in NITs and IIITs is 24229 and 8546, respectively. According to the official data, this year 355 seats are increased in IIT, including 20 in IIT Bhubaneswar, 12 in IIT Bombay, 30 in Kharagpur, 84 in Patna, 30 in Gandhinagar, 10 in Guwahati, 40 in Bhilai, 10 in Tirupati, and 75 in Dharwad. In 2023, the IIT seat count was 17385.

Q: What rank is required in IIT JAM for IIT Bombay MSc admission?
IIT Bombay MSc cutoff 2024 has been released for Round 1, wherein, M.Sc.+ in Applied Geology is the most competitive specialsiation with a closing rank of 16 for the General AII India category students. The least competitive course is M.Sc.+ Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering with a cutoff rank of 643. So, candidates seeking admission to any of the MSc course must secure a rank upto 643 to be eligible for IIT Bombay.
IIT Bombay admissio to the MSc course is based on IIT JAM scores, followed by IIT JAM counselling process. Only candidates in the JAM 2024 Merit List based on JAM 2024 scorecard will be eligible to apply for admission.
Q: Can I get admission to IIT Bombay in BTech if my rank is between 1 and 5000?
The cut off rank in Round 6 for B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering is 67 which is very close to this range. This was for general category under All India quota. Unless the candidate belongs to some other category, one can not afford to score less than this. With this rank, there is a probability of getting admission however since, the cut offs keep changing from round to round, better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Bombay - Indian Institute of Technology.

JEE Advanced Results 2024
The JEE Advanced results were announced in June 2024. Out of 1.8 lakh candidates who appeared, 48,248 cleared the test. Among these, 7,964 were successful female candidates, and 594 were persons with disabilities. The distribution across categories was as follows: 14,083 from the General category, 9,281 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 5,423 from Economically Weaker Sections, 13,794 from Scheduled Castes, and 5,073 from Scheduled Tribes.
Ved Lahoti from the IIT Delhi zone topped the Common Rank List (CRL) with an All India Rank of 1, scoring 355 out of 360 marks. He plans to pursue a degree in computer science at IIT Bombay, with a keen interest in artificial intelligence research.
The top-ranked female candidate, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel from the IIT Bombay zone, secured CRL 7 with 332 marks out of 360. She also aims to study computer science at IIT Bombay.
