West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee has directed all the state universities to implement the academic calendar in their respective institutions within a month after the lockdown is lifted.
The announcement was made after he held a videoconference with vice-chancellors of all the state universities. He made the announcement during an online press conference. He also informed me that the VCs have decided on how to conduct the classes and the final semester examinations.
"The academic calendar, including examinations, will be put into effect within a month after the lockdown is lifted," he said.
The educational institutions in the state have also received the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines in this regard and the issue came up in the meeting held during the day.
He had earlier said that the UGC guidelines reflect the recommendations made by the state government on issues such as conducting terminal examinations in the post-lockdown period.
"To avoid any study loss during this lockdown period, the faculty in various educational institutions around the state are conducting online classes. This is, in turn, helping students to remain active and in-touch with their studies," he said.
While thanking faculty members for conducting online classes, he said, the work and effort the teachers are putting are commendable and this will definitely help students to continue with their academics during this coronavirus lockdown period.
Chatterjee also thanked the Calcutta University authorities for lending its real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) equipment to the state government for the detection and study of COVID-19. The equipment has met the WHO guidelines, he said.
