AICTE has launched a new scheme VAANI to promote Indian languages among faculty members and students. This will provide monetary support to AICTE-recognized institutions to organise events like conferences, seminars, and workshops to be held in 12 regional languages. Know details here

The All India Council for Technical Education has launched the 'AICTE-VAANI' scheme, aimed at fostering the use of Indian languages among educators and students to enhance the teaching and learning experience. VAANI stands for Vibrant Advocacy for Advancement and Nurturing of Indian Languages. AICTE-VAANI is launched by AICTE Chairman Prof. T.G. Sitharam and Padma Shri Awardee and Chairman of the High Powered Committee for the Promotion of Indian Languages Chamu Krishna Shastry at AICTE HQ, New Delhi.  

The 12 emerging fields covered include 'Advanced Materials, Rare Earth & Critical Minerals, Semiconductor, Space and Defense, Blue Economy, Energy, Sustainability & Climate Change, Advanced Computing (encompassing Supercomputing, AI, Quantum Computing), Next-Generation Communications, Smart Cities & Mobility, Agrotech & Food Processing, Healthcare & Medical Technology, Disaster Management & Resilient Infrastructure, and Manufacturing & Industry 4.0.

Financial Assistance to AICTE-Approved Institutions

Under this program, AICTE-approved institutions will get financial support to host 2 to 3-day events in 12 regional languages, focusing on new areas of technical education. Annually, up to 100 conferences can benefit from this funding, with each receiving up to Rs 2 lakh. These 100 conferences are distributed as eight per regional language, including Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali, Kannada, Assamese, Malayalam, Odia, and Urdu, with an additional twelve conferences in Hindi. The AICTE will allocate a total of Rs 2 crore every year for this initiative.

The applications for AICTE Approved Institutions will be available till April 10, 2024. The institutions will be selected based on the parameters designed by AICTE available at: aicte-india.org. Once selected, AICTE will provide approval to Institutions for conducting the seminars/workshops/conferences.

Launching the scheme, AICTE Chairman highlighted, “AICTE -VAANI scheme will help in creating knowledge base in local language and will encourage creation of a treasure of latest technical knowledge incorporating the newest developments in regional languages”. 

Shri Chammu K Shastry stated, “The scheme will remove the dilemma regarding giving preference to only English language rather than vernacular languages. The importance of regional languages or mother tongue in education will ensure cultural diversity of the nation”
