Tamil Nadu government has rejected the idea of enforcing a three-language policy in the state and has asked the Governor to immediately forward the NEET exemption Bill to the President.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin led government has once again asked the Governor to forward the NEET exemption bill to the President of India. The government has insisted that the dual language policy of the state is not a setback to students' opportunities or eligibility. The state government has denied the idea of implementing a three-language policy in Tamil Nadu.

The government said this while responding to Governor RN Ravi's remarks during his 73rd Republic Day address to the people of Tamil Nadu. He said, "Depriving our students of knowledge of other Indian languages is unfair to all. Besides fostering brotherliness and better mutual appreciation, a linguistic intellectual and cultural cross-pollination will enrich all of us and also open several opportunities for our harmonious growth," he said, as reported by TOI.

He also added that before NEET, the share of government school students in medical admissions to government colleges was hardly 1%. "Thanks to the affirmative action of 7.5% reservation for government school students that the number has improved significantly."

Reacting to Governor's remark, Minister for Tamil Official Language and Cultural & Industries Thangam Thennarasu said, "Such a remark implies advocating a three-language policy for Tamil Nadu."

"I hope the Governor would understand that the two-language policy has not been a setback to our students in any way in their education or in opportunities for higher positions."
