Former ISRO Chief Radhakrishnan renominated as IIT Kanpur board Chairman
K Radhakrishnan, one of the prime drivers of India’s Mangalyaan (Mars) mission in 2014 and Chandrayaan-1 (Moon) mission in 2008, retired as ISRO Chief in December 2014.
K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has been renominated as the chairperson of the Board of Governors (BoG), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur.
The nomination by the President of India in his capacity as Visitor of the IIT is for a period of three years. Radhakrishnan retired as ISRO Chairman (2009-14) in December 2014. Radhakrishnan was also one of the prime drivers of India’s Mangalyaan (Mars) mission in 2014 and Chandrayaan-1 (Moon) mission in 2008.
A doctorate from the IIT Kharagpur, his career in the ISRO spanned almost 40 years, during which he served as Director of the National Remote Sensing Centre in Hyderabad from 2005 to 2008 and founder director of the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), also in Hyderabad, from 2000 to 2005.

IIT Kanpur Director Abhay Karandikar congratulated Radhakrishnan on Twitter. He wrote, “I am very delighted to share that Hon'ble President of India in his capacity as Visitor of IIT Kanpur has renominated Dr K Radhakrishnan as the Chairperson Board of Governors for the second term of three years. @radhakr272 @rashtrapatibhvn @EduMinOfIndia @dpradhanbjp @IITKanpur. He further wrote, “For the last 3 years, it was indeed a privilege and honor to work with him. We at @IITKanpur have greatly benefited from his wisdom and mentorship. I look forward for his continued guidance and support.”
