As soon as the first Covid cases became known, the celebration was suspended. From Monday onwards, all classes will again be held online. End-semester exams in May will be conducted on schedule, but in online mode, the varsity said.
Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) has shut the offline classes after 25 new COVID-19 cases were reported on campus. This is the first time that Covid cases were reported in double digits at an educational campus recently. Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) officials visited the campus on Friday and instructed the authorities to shut down in-person education.
The varsity has also directed the students to not venture out of their hostel rooms. To put the figure into perspective, Gujarat recorded eight new Covid cases, taking the number of active cases in the state to 73 on Thursday. These numbers rose to 20 and 86, respectively, on Friday. While no other educational institute has recorded Covid cases, GMC sources said a drive will be launched at campuses in a phase-wise manner, as reported by TOI.
Dr Jagadeesh Chandra TG, the in-charge registrar of GNLU, said that Fresher's Week was being held at the university for the past few days.
"As soon as the first Covid cases became known, the celebration was suspended. From Monday onwards, all classes will again be held online. End-semester exams in May will be conducted on schedule, but in online mode," he said.
As per the reports, the University had begun the offline classes in full strength only five days ago. "The first case became known when a girl student complained of a fever and a cold. After she tested positive, those who were in contact with her were also tested and turned out to be positive. Mass testing was conducted, through which more than 25 cases were found," an official said. On a positive note, none of the infected students complained of severe symptoms or needed hospitalization. "All of them are being quarantined and provided medical assistance," an official added.
