Gujarat announces 3 new medical colleges after many students stranded in Ukraine
After many medical students from Gujarat got stranded in the war-hit country Ukraine, the state government has announced the opening of three new medical colleges in the state.
One of the immediate effects of the Russia-Ukraine conflict which can be seen in India is the increasing talks on why Indian students in large numbers go abroad to pursue medical courses. The effect could also be seen on the Gujarat budget 2022-23 as the state government has announced the opening of three new medical colleges after many of its students were found to be stranded in Ukraine.
Reportedly, the new medical colleges will come up at Botad, Veraval, and Jam Khambhalia.
Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai has presented the state budget for the financial year 2022-23 on Thursday and also announced these three medical colleges.
31 medical colleges are operating in Gujarat: Govt
As per the government of Gujarat, there are as many as 31 medical colleges that are operating in the state. A total of 5700 MBBS seats and 2000 PG seats are available in these medical colleges.
Moreover, to provide better quality health care services to the people of Gujarat, there is a provision of INR 106 crore under the Master Plan Project for developing modern health care facilities in the Government Medical Colleges at Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Surat, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and their modernization.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also said that his government is working to increase the number of medical colleges in India and only a strong country is the answer to the issue of migration of Indian medical students overseas.
The evacuation process is still going on under the government's Operation Ganga and many Indian students have reached back to the country.
