Ahead of a nationwide lockdown to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, Delhi closed its schools in March 2020. While the national capital reopened schools in stages as the COVID-19 situation allowed, they did so in a hybrid format, with kids authorised to attend offline lessons only with their parents' permission.
Need to Bridge Learning Gap
Last month, the National Progressive Schools' Conference wrote a letter to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal requesting to bridge the learning gap among primary students. The letter stated, "We are grateful for your intervention for the unconditional reopening of schools." Showing concerns over the clause of reopening from April 1, the letter stated, "Children from nursery to class VIII have a huge learning gap as we are observing them. In March we could have focused our efforts to bridge that gap so that children would have been ready for the next grade in April."
Calling it important to reopen schools on an early basis, The body also talked about teachers stating that they are overburdened with offline and online assessments works.
