Dharma Samaj College, Aligarh, has released an official notification banning entry of students without 'prescribed uniforms'. The move comes two days after a section of students wearing saffron scares held a protest on campus, demanding ban of hijab on the college premises.

While confirming the development, Raj Kumar Verma, Principal, Dharma Samaj College said, "in order to maintain discipline, the college administration has issued the notice regarding uniforms. We will not allow students’ entry in the premises with covered faces, as some students were recently spotted wearing hijab and burqa on the campus.” He further added that even the saffron scarves will not be allowed inside the campus.

Earlier this week, some students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) also held a protest march on the campus to extend their support for all those who have been demanding their right to wear the hijab in the southern state. The students held posters and raised slogans as they marched within the campus. As per the reports, the students also had issued a written statement describing the ban on hijab as an assault on their fundamental right.

“We have been compelled to lodge a protest when an incident took place in Karnataka in which a young girl, protesting against the ban, was hounded by a group of vandals. We salute the brave girls of Karnataka,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, amid the ongoing hijab crisis, the Karnataka government reopened pre-university, degree and diploma colleges under tight security arrangements. Though many students attended the class, some of them who refused to take off their hijab were sent back home.
