The six-month course will cover different disciplines of the Tourism Industry like rural tourism, eco-tourism, health tourism, geography, history, communication skill, foreign language, etc.

Guru Nanak Dev University has launched a ‘Tourist Guide Training Programme’. The programme has been inaugurated in the University’s Department of Tourism and Hospitality. The course dedicated to tourism and hospitality will be of six months duration in which the candidate will learn all the skills and competencies that are required to become a tourist guide. The six-month course will cover different disciplines of the Tourism Industry like rural tourism, eco-tourism, health tourism, geography, history, communication skill, foreign language, etc. Knowledge regarding conducting a guided tour will also be provided to the candidates enrolled under the Guru Nanak Dev University's Tourist Guide Training Programme.

On successful completion of the Tourist Guide Training Programme, the candidate will be awarded a tour guiding license by the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board under the Government of Punjab. The course will not only impart knowledge related to tourism and tour guiding but will also provide trained tour guiding professionals to the tourism industry on India. The candidates with Tour guiding license by the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board will be well-equipped with the knowledge of tourism in all aspects (rural tourism, eco-tourism, and health tourism). Not just knowledge but the programme will also work on the personality development of the candidates by improving their communication skills and training them in multiple foreign languages, increasing their employment opportunities. 

The Tourist Guide Training Programme was inaugurated with a cake cutting ceremony. During the ceremony, Professor Mandeep Kaur, and Madam Harpreet Kaur (PHTPB) addressed the participants by introducing them to the significance of the course. The participants were also made familiar with the rules and regulations of the University as well as the course.
