The Central Government apprised the Lok Sabha that the ongoing litigations have also held up appointments to various faculty/non-faculty positions in certain institutions.

Over 13,000 vacant teaching posts in centrally run institutions shave been filled till July 20, 2023. There are more than 32,000 teaching posts vacant in centrally run institutions which include central universities, Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Management, NITs, etc.

Replying to a question on the reasons for the recruitment of only 18.8 per cent or 6,406 teaching and non-teaching staff out of the targeted 34,099 vacant positions in Central Higher Educational Institutions in India Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Education Dr Subhas Sarkar informed that the Ministry has identified more than 32000 vacancies in all the Central Higher Educational Institutions across the country.

“As on 20th July 2023, a total of 13238 vacancies have been filled up in Central Higher Educational Institutions,” Dr Sarkar stated.

The minister also informed that the ongoing litigations have also held up appointments to various faculty/non-faculty positions in certain institutions.

He also stated that another important factor that is impacting recruitment is that it is the same pool of talent that all the institutions are vying for, causing the movement of faculty from one institution to another causing corresponding vacancy in an institution.
