50 Years of JNU: VC calls to ensure university remain a space to cherishes equality & inclusivity
JNU VC said that with a constant endeavour to cherish free thinking and critical questioning for knowledge creation the university's faculty and students have reached new heights
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice-Chancellor has called the faculty and students to strive to ensure the university remain a space that cherishes equality and inclusivity. The JNU VC issued the statement on completion of 50 years of JNU.
JNU one of the highest ranked Indian university has been more in negative news in the past few years with clashes between left and right wing students happening frequently, often turning violent.
In her message, Vice Chancellor Prof Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit has stated that JNU nurtures an environment of debate, discussion and dissent. She writes: “Heartiest Congratulations to all of you, on the occasion of JNU's establishment day. Standing tall, for more than 50 years now, JNU is a premier institution that proudly nurtures an environment of debate, discussion and dissent.”
She further stated that with a constant endeavour to cherish free thinking and critical questioning for knowledge creation, the university's faculty and students have reached new heights across fields.
“The idea of the institution is and will always be to sharpen intellectual capabilities to achieve academic excellence for the larger good of the society. JNU has set a benchmark for others in both academic and non-academic fields. It is imperative, therefore, we - the faculty and students - strive to remain a space that cherishes equality and inclusivity,” JNU VC writes.
She further writes: “Today, I also extend my sincere gratitude to the non-teaching community who work tirelessly to help make JNU an institution for holistic development.”
