AASU announces Satyagraha against CAA implementation; Students across universities calls protest

All Assam Students Union is set to Satyagraha across the state. Meanwhile, various Anti-CAA protests by opposition parties, such as the Congress, and various organisations are going on in several parts of the country. 

CAA Implementation causes chaos! All Assam Students' Union (AASU) have announced 'Satyagraha' all across the state to protest against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act. AASU ‘Satyagraha' will be held in all the district headquarters during the day.  A torchlight procession in several parts of the state was also carried out by the Assam students' organization.

The organization has also filed petition against the Act in the Supreme Court, while the leader of the opposition in the Assam assembly Debabrata Saikia filed an interlocutory application in the apex court, seeking a stay on the implementation of the Act.

Opposition uproar against CAA; Protests run across various universities

Meanwhile, various Anti-CAA protests by opposition parties, such as the Congress, and various organisations are going on in several parts of the country. Calling CAA unconstitutional and discriminatory. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced to lead a roadshow in Siliguri against the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019.

Students detained at DU

Delhi Police detained nearly 55 students gathered to protest against the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at the Delhi University Arts Faculty. According to the Police, the action has been taken as a measure to avoid difficult situations.

Scores of students from the Left affiliated AISA had called for a protest against the implementation of the CAA notified by the Centre on Monday.

Delhi University AISA unit president Manik Gupta told media that the Police detained the students way before the protest started. "Many students who were simply standing outside the Arts Faculty and not participating in the protest were detained by the police on the basis of mere doubt," he alleged, claiming that students were brutally handled.

Protest against CAA at Jamia

Contentious CAA has resulted in protests at Jamia Millia Islamia by Students’ groups demanding the Centre to withdraw it. The students addressed the media from inside the Jamia Millia Islamia campus while the Delhi Police remained guarded outside. Addressing a press conference near one of the gates of the varsity, the protesting students pressed for repeal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and release all students who were booked in the anti-CAA protest nearly four years ago. They also demanded withdrawal of the cases against the students.
