AMU VC Tariq Mansoor nominated to UP Legislative Council; Prof Gulrez takes charge
Prof Mansoor was given a one-year extension as the VC in March 2022. Following his resignation, Mansoor wrote a farewell letter thanking AMU teachers, staff members, colleagues, and alumni.
Pro-Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Prof. Mohammad Gulrez has taken over the charge as the Vice Chancellor after Prof Tariq Mansoor demitted his office.
Prof Mansoor demitted from the Vice-Chancellor's office after being nominated as the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of Uttar Pradesh.
Prof Mansoor was given a one-year extension as the VC in March 2022. Following his resignation, Mansoor wrote a farewell letter thanking AMU teachers, staff members, colleagues, and alumni.
As per an official release issued by AMU Registrar, Mohammad Imran, IPS.“Consequent upon the resignation of Prof Tariq Mansoor, Vice Chancellor, AMU on April 2, 2023, Prof Mohammad Gulrez, Pro-Vice Chancellor shall discharge the duties of the Vice Chancellor until a new Vice-Chancellor assumes office.”
Prof Gulrez is the former Dean, of the Faculty of International Studies, Dean of Students’ Welfare and former Chairman, of the Department of West Asian and North African Studies, and Director, of the Centre of Continuing Adult Education and Extension, AMU, Prof Mohammad Gulrez is the Coordinator, Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies Programme, and has vast administrative experience.
Earlier a notification was issued on Monday by Special Secretary Chandra Shekhar stating the names of six people which included Rajnikant Maheshwari, Saket Mishra, Lalji Nirmal, Tariq Mansoor, Ramsurat Rajbhar and Hansraj Vishwakarma to be nominated by the Uttar Pradesh Governor for the legislative council.
