The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has launched an online portal for the students of B.Ed, D.El.Ed, M.Ed, etc., that will issue certificates in the online mode at Rs 200 per copy. The awarding of certificates in the offline mode will also be continued.

Here’s a good news for students with a degree and diploma in education. The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has launched an online portal, ncte.gov.in/optrms, which will issue e-certificates to students who complete B.Ed, D.El.Ed, M.Ed, etc., from authentic institutes. Students who have studied in any part of the country need to get their documents verified before applying for a teaching job. Earlier, this process was only done offline. Now, candidates will be able to obtain their certificates online within a span of three to five days with the help of this portal.

Those seeking to secure certificates will be required to provide the necessary information at the official website called online teacher-pupil registration management system (OPTRMS). According to the certifying body, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), candidates will need to pay Rs 200 for each copy of the certificate.

Students must note that the process of getting the certificates offline will also continue. Further, the certificates will be issued for only those degrees which are recognised by the NCTE. This process will enable to track down fake entries, if any.

Earlier this month, the ministry had also designed the new syllabus for B.Ed and launched the four-year integrated B.Ed programme. The new course will be of three types – B.Sc-B.Ed, B.Com-B.Ed and B.A.-B.Ed  – to cater to students from different streams. The programme has been launched for the current academic session and colleges interested to offer the course may contact the ministry.

According to official statistics, there are 19,000 B.Ed colleges in the country and 90 lakh teachers. The NCTE plans to make at least one B.Ed institute as a model institute in every district of the country. The NCTE, which recently turned 25, has also sought entries from such different institutes for the nation’s first award for teacher educator. According to the NCTE chairperson, Satbir Bedi, “There are awards for teachers but not for those who educate teachers. Through these first-ever awards, we wish to award the teacher trainers too.” The entries for the awards across categories is open and will close on August 16.
