The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR over alleged misappropriation of over ₹300 crores against officials of the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). The FIR alleges that officials of KSOU were involved in the misappropriation of funds collected as fees from students between 2009-10 and 2015-16.
The CBI FIR filed under sections 13(1)(c) and 13(1)(d) and sections 403 and 409 of the Indian Penal Code states: “The university has several collaborative institutions in India and abroad and these institutions were crediting the fees collected from the students towards admission fee, examination fee and such other fees required to be credited to the university.”
The FIR alleges that the KSOU opened its collaborative institutions throughout the country and also abroad.
"The collaborative institutions were crediting the fees collected from the students towards admission fee, examination fee and such other fees required to be credited to the university," mentions the FIR.
The alleged scam surfaced during an audit for the financial years 2013-14 and 2014-15 that credits to the tune of ₹50 crores from various collaborative institutions were missing.
The auditor also calculated approximately another ₹250 crore missing credits pertaining to financial years 2009-10 to 2012-2013 based on the students' admission and the amount received by the university etc.
