DU in its letter to St. Stephen’s college has stated that admissions in violation of University policies will not be recognized and will be treated as invalid for all purposes.

The tussle between Delhi University and one of its prominent colleges, St. Stephen's College, related to its admission process is far from getting resolved. DU administration has sent a letter to St. Stephen's Principal stating that if the college goes ahead with its own criteria, the varsity will not recognize those admissions.

The controversy erupted after St Stephen’s released its admission prospectus this Monday. The college in its admission process has stated that it will take admission through Common University Admission Test (CUET) and 85 percent weightage will be given on the basis of merit and 15 percent weightage for all candidates will be through interviews.

This is being seen as a deviation from the admission process announced by the DU administration, which has announced CUET-UG 2022 score will be the sole criteria for admission to various undergraduate courses offered by the affiliated colleges of the University of Delhi.

DU Registrar Dr. Vikas Gupta in his letter to St Stephen’s College Principal Prof. John Varghese has stated that if St. Stephen's College does not follow the admission instructions issued by DU, then the university will not recognize the admission. He has also stated that the admission process announced by the college is a clear violation of the admission policies approved by the statutory bodies of Delhi University.

St. Stephen's College is yet to issue any clarification or statement on the letter from DU Registrar. The university has also asked St. Stephen’s to withdraw the admission brochure immediately from the college website.

The letter also states that failure to do so, any admission made in violation of the University's admission norms and policies will not be recognized by the University and will be treated as invalid for all purposes.

Admission to DU through CUET

Earlier last month, Delhi University announced its admission policy for UG courses stating that admission to all its affiliated colleges would be through CUET. The varsity administration also clarified that apart from the CUET score, there will be no scale for admissions. For St. Stephen's it said that except for the reserved seats, all other seats will be admitted by merit only under CUET.

However, St Stephen's College objected to this move and agreed to accept the CUET score but 85 percent weightage will be given to the CUET score, and 15 percent marks will be decided based on the interview of the candidates.

Students who wish to take admission in St. Stephen's will have to register with St. Stephen's after applying to DU. Shiksha.com tried reaching out to St.Stephen’s College principal, however, till the time of filing of the story call went unanswered.
