Delhi University to invest Rs 27.21 crore on Social Centre School expansion

DU VC Prof. Yogesh Singh performed Bhoomi Poojan, New building will be ready in 15 months

The horizontal expansion work of Delhi University Social Centre Co-Education School, Maurice Nagar will be completed in 15 months, said DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh.

This building will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 27.21 crore and will be ready in 15 months.

Prof. Yogesh Singh said that our aim is to provide good resources to the children along with good education. The shortage of a good building infrastructure in the school in consonance with the number of children will be solved after the new building is built. He said that at present about 600 children from nursery to class 10 are studying in the school, while the present building has a total of eight rooms and two halls.

After the new building, there will be adequate space available for students to sit. There will be 21 rooms in the four-storey building including basement

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Yogesh Singh said that the project cost of the new building to be built on a plot of 16754 square meter area is about Rs 27.21 crore.

The school was started in 1947

Delhi University Social Centre Co-educational School was started in 1947. In the initial days, the women of Maurice Nagar area, following the spirit of Seva Paramo Dharma, started teaching the children of class IV employees in the barracks located in the Faculty of Arts of University of Delhi. In 1964 the school was registered by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi up to class V and in 1967 it was upgraded to class VIII. In 1970 the school received recognition as a Middle School (I-VIII) by the Directorate of Education. In 1989, the school received the present building as a grant. This building was given as grant as per the seating capacity of 250 students but currently around 600 students are studying in the school. In the year 2003, classes 9 and 10 run by the school were recognized by the Directorate of Education (without grant-in-aid) and also got affiliation by the Central Board of Secondary Education. In 2014, the school started a private nursery department in collaboration with University of Delhi and parents. The school also receives grants from University of Delhi from time to time, which are used for the educational activities of the students.
