DU Admissions 2022 to begin soon, Class 12th score to be tie-breaker

Delhi University (DU) is all set to begin the DU Admissions 2022 very soon. Several students have been eagerly awaiting the Delhi University Admission Process to start as unlike in previous years, this year, the admission will be based on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2022 score. The DU Admissions this year, is delayed due to the extension of the CUET-UG schedule following exam cancellation at several centers last week because of technical glitches.

Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh talking about the admission process while speaking to media said that the Common Seat Allocation System, CSAS portal for the aspirants to fill up applications for DU admission in undergraduate courses will be launched โ€œvery soonโ€.

Confusion among Delhi University aspirants

Earlier, the University asked candidates to ensure their documents and certificates are ready by August 31, 2022. While the varsity notified students about the documents required, they are still not clarified about the admission process.

Niyati Gupta, who is looking forward to taking admission to Delhi University this year, said, โ€œ DU is a dream college. I have scored good marks and CUET 2022 also went fine. However, it is still unclear how varsity will admit students this year. What will happen if the student has not scored well in the CUET but has secured good marks in the Class 12th exam? With all these questions in mind, and with DU not coming up with any official announcement, the anxiety is increasing day by day.โ€

While speaking on DU admission through CUET 2022, Professor Balram Pani, Dean of Colleges at Delhi University said, " DU admissions will be solely through CUET score. This will help in giving an equal platform to everyone who wishes to take admission at Delhi University. Merit will be calculated on the basis of the subjects in which the candidate has appeared in CUET as mentioned.โ€

Board marks for tie breaker in DU Admission 2022

However, Delhi University colleges are prepared with their admission process and are waiting for CUET to get over.  When Shiksha reached out to Manoj Sinha, Principal, Arya Bhatt College, Delhi University, to get clarity, he said, โ€œDU Admissions 2022 will be smoother than previous years and the reason for that is this year the definitions will be much clearer there will be no problem of balancing on behalf of University. The CUET 2022 marks will be the full and final thing.โ€

Sinha informed that in case of students getting same CUET score, boards marks will be considered as tie breaker. "In case there are ten students and all of them have same CUET score and have applied for the same course, only in that case, criteria will be applied which is beyond CUET, that is we will consider CBSE or any other recognized Class 12th board exam results. So, we are not completely removing the Class 12th result. However, CBSE Result 2022 is less in focus but is not entirely neglected as far as DU Admission process is concerned," he said.

Many students have been raising their concerns over the delay in the admission process and have also urged the DU to begin the admission soon. When asked about the same, Sinha said, โ€œDU is ready with the admission process, but we are waiting for CUET 2022 results to be announced. All our system is in place, like, counselling team, and online software system everything is ready. As soon as the CUET 2022 result is announced, within ten days DU will release various admission processes, details etc.โ€

While some are worried about the admission process, many are anxious about their academics. With the delay in the admission process, students are now worried that the academic pressure will be more on them this year. While speaking on the same, Himanshu Negi, who is looking forward to taking admission to BA (Hons.) course, said, โ€œ Last year, many students had claimed that they were asked to sit in the semester exams even when the course was not finished. Though the situation was worst due to COVID, this year too, the admission process has not started yet. With the delay in the admission process, teachers will try to finish the course as soon as possible, which in turn means extra pressure on kids.โ€

While speaking on the issue, DU registrar Vikas Gupta said, โ€œThe admission process is starting late but none of the students will face any problem in their academics. In 2020, due to the outbreak of COVID-19, we began our academic session in December, but even then, those students have been given their results on time. So, this year students should not be worried.โ€

From this year onwards, a total of 44 central universities, 12 state universities, 11 deemed-to-be universities, and 19 private universities have decided to use the results of CUET-UG for admissions.

CUET UG 2022 phase 6 exam concluded on August 30, 2022. CUET 2022 results are expected to be announced by September second week.
