DU EC has approved formation of a committee regarding 12 colleges, will submit report in 15 days

The Delhi University Executive Council (EC) has sanctioned the establishment of a committee concerning the 12 colleges funded by the Delhi government. Tasked with reporting within a 15-day timeframe, this committee aims to address crucial concerns regarding these institutions' governance.

Earlier this month, the Delhi Education Minister forwarded a letter to the Union Education Minister, pressing for complete control or financial responsibility over the 12 colleges affiliated with DU and funded by the state government. In the communication, Atishi emphasized the necessity for the Central government to either assume financial responsibility for these colleges or delegate complete control to the Delhi government.

Acknowledging the significance of this issue, the DU Vice-Chancellor underscored the need for a serious examination. Highlighting the committee's prompt initiation, he announced its commencement from tomorrow, emphasizing a swift report submission within 15 days. Following this, the report will be dispatched to both the Government of India and the Government of Delhi for further deliberation.

Moreover, the EC endorsed the allocation of 12.76 acres of land in Dhaka to transform Patel Chest Hospital into a multi-specialty healthcare center.

Additionally, the DU EC granted approval for the transformation of syllabi in various departments from existing CBCS/LOCF-based schemes to align with UGCF-2022. The EC also greenlit the Faculty of Education's recommendations regarding the curriculum structure for the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) and the curricular offerings for Semester 1 and 2.

Furthermore, the EC accepted the Faculty of Social Sciences' proposals, including a minor name amendment from 'Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension' to 'Department of Continuing Education and Extension'. It also endorsed declaring subjects like B.Sc. Physics, B.Sc. Applied Science, and B.Sc. Mathematical Science as synonymous with the B.Sc. in Computer Science course, considering Computer Science as one of the three primary subjects.

The EC approved students' pursuit of two academic degrees concurrently. This decision allows students to enroll in one course through regular means and another through Open and Distance Education (ODL) mode. Additionally, the EC embraced the Academic Council's recommendations for the promotion guidelines concerning teachers in the Departments/Centres of Delhi University.
