The interested candidates must register themselves, which starts from Tuesday, September 19, 2023 to Saturday, September 30, 2023.

Under the newly established Center for Hindu Studies by the University of Delhi, the University has unveiled an M.A. in Hindu Studies from the academic session 2023-24. Admission has started.

Joint Director of the Center Prof. Prerna Malhotra, giving information, said that Admission shall be based on merit only in the qualifying degree. A graduation degree holder in any discipline with a minimum score shall be eligible to apply for the programme. Interested candidates must register themselves at https://pg-merit.uod.ac.in/. The registrations can be done from Tuesday, September 19, 2023 to Saturday, September 30, 2023. For details, the candidates must refer to the PG-Merit-based Bulletin of Information published on the admission website of the University (www.admission.uod.ac.in)

Simultaneously, the University has also begun the process for admission to two more postgraduate merit-based programmes- A Post-graduate Diploma in Cyber Security and Law and an M.A. in Chinese Studies.

The specific details regarding eligibility and process of admissions may be accessed from the admission website of the University.

Prof. Prerna Malhotra said that this is a first-of-its-kind postgraduate programme, known as Master of Arts in Hindu Studies, with a provision of a minor course in the knowledge domains of Computer Science, Data Analytics, Commerce, Political Science etc. which is in line with the progressive provisions of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020), which envisages multidisciplinary approach in knowledge dissemination for innovation and practical orientation in teaching learning and research.  The chosen Minor subject will be stated in the Master’s Degree, like an M.A. in Hindu Studies with a Minor in Data Science and Analytics/ Computer Science/ Commerce/ Political Science, etc. After acquiring such an MA Degree with the required credits in the Major and Minor, students will be eligible to pursue further research and study in Hindu Studies as well as the chosen Minor subject.

The objective of the M.A. in Hindu Studies, with a Minor, is to provide students with traditional knowledge related to Hindu philosophy and outlook and employable present-day future-ready skills. The Programme will focus on a deep understanding of the millennia-old Hindu ethos and contemporary career goals.  The multidisciplinary approach will encourage students to explore the intersections between Hindu Studies and other contemporary subjects.

The Programme is a cutting-edge initiative of the University designed to foster a deep and nuanced understanding of Hindu thought and philosophy. It is set to bridge the gap between the civilizational Hindu thoughts and contemporary career opportunities, based on the strengths of the Bhartiya civilisational value system along with multi-disciplinary perspectives, as envisioned in the NEP- 2020.

Prof. Malhotra said, “The University’s initiative, under the visionary leadership and guidance of Prof. Yogesh Singh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, is based on the belief that the academic endeavour through structured teaching-learning and research in the knowledge domain of Hindu civilization along with its history, literature and philosophy has largely remained dormant in the universities and research institutions. The University Grants Commission’s introduction of Hindu Studies as a subject for the National Eligibility Test (NET) has ensured that it is recognised as a knowledge domain which requires structured studies and career opportunities in teaching-learning, research and other intellectual pursuits. This has certainly provided the University with the impetus to initiate such a programme as the University remains committed to fostering academic excellence, innovation in teaching and inclusion of traditional Bhartiya ethos in higher education.”
