In December 2023, the IOE advertised 50 positions for the fellowship, explicitly stating in the General Instruction section that the selection process would adhere to the Government of India’s reservation guidelines

A group of faculty members from the University of Delhi have written a letter to the Vice-Chancellor, raising concerns over alleged violations of reservation rules by the Institute of Eminence (IOE) in its recent recruitment process. The letter, dated May 15, 2024, details grievances regarding the shortlisting of candidates for the Maharishi Kanad Postdoctoral Fellowship.

In December 2023, the IOE advertised 50 positions for the fellowship, explicitly stating in the General Instruction section that the selection process would adhere to the Government of India’s reservation guidelines. However, the faculty members claim that these guidelines were not followed in the shortlisting of candidates for interviews scheduled for May 17, 2024.

“There is no transparency in this regard,” the letter states, highlighting the lack of adherence to reservation policies. Additionally, the signatories point out that the scheduled interviews contravene a university notification that suspends appointments under the model code of conduct during election periods. The fellowship offers a substantial emolument of Rs one lakh per month to the selected candidates.

The letter, signed by notable members of the University’s academic and executive councils, including Seema Das, Rajpal Singh, J L Gupta, Alok Pandey, Mamta Chaudhary, Sunil Kumar, Ram Kishore Yadav, and Chander Mohan Negi, urges the Vice-Chancellor to intervene and ensure that reservation guidelines are properly followed.

The Vice-Chancellor's office has yet to issue a response to these allegations. The controversy has sparked discussions among the academic community about the transparency and fairness of recruitment processes within the university.
