France to set up university in India
Foreign universities setting up campuses will not be regulated by Indian regulatory agencies like the UGC and the AICTE.
France has expressed interest to set up university campus in India. The government of India has invited top foreign universities to set up a campus in India, which will be free from local rules and regulations.
The Ministry of External Affairs has informed that the French side has expressed interest in setting up a university campus for higher education courses in India.
Minister of State for Education, Dr. Subhas Sarkar in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today informed that Istituto Marangoni (Italy) had expressed interest to establish a foreign, fully independent Higher Education Institute of Fashion and Design in India.
“International campuses will give students from India and neighbouring countries exposure to quality education of global standards,” Sarkar said.
During the Budget speech 2022-23, Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the World-class foreign universities and institutions will be allowed in the Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City to offer courses in Financial Management, FinTech, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics free from domestic regulations, except those by IFSCA to facilitate the availability of high-end human resources for financial services and technology.
Foreign universities setting up campuses will not be regulated by Indian regulatory agencies like the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), though details are yet to be out. As per some of the experts, these institutions are likely to get tax incentives and be allowed to make and repatriate profit.
