Jammu University to offer ‘Design Your Degree’ to promote applicative learning, skill development
The new programme is aligned with the needs of the 21st century and aims to provide unique opportunities for students to shape their curriculum.
The University of Jammu is all set to launch an innovative programme, ‘Design your degree’ to promote applicative learning, skill enhancement in line with the National Educational Policy (NEP 2020). Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha chaired the J-K higher education council meeting.
“The deliberations ranged from themes like multidisciplinary education, the ecosystem for research and innovation, Indian philosophy and languages and project-based learning mode, combined with needs and challenges of society,” the official statement said.
The new programme is aligned with the needs of the 21st century and aims to provide unique opportunities for students to shape their curriculum, it said.
“Journey of our Amrit Kaal will not only be about degrees but also about skills and values. Identifying new sectors of employment, learning in classrooms should contribute to changes and new solutions. No classroom can afford to teach subjects that are irrelevant in today's context,” the Lt.
Governor's office said. “Research should reflect the reality of accelerated transformation. Increase interaction with leading academicians. Critical evaluation is a must for future strategy. Critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, curiosity will build an equitable and vibrant knowledge society,” it added.
The J-K Lt Governor had for the first time chaired the education council meeting last October. He had said that the education system in J-K should focus on solving the present-day challenges. Skill-based learning, research, innovation, capacity building, and enhancing employability should be of focus while implementing the NEP 2020 in universities and colleges across J-K, he said.
