MU has advides students and faculty to stay tuned to university updates and coordinate with their institutions regarding exam preparations.

Mumbai University has postponed all examinations scheduled for August 8, 2025, following Maharashtra government-declared public holiday for Narali Pournima. The university cited the festival-based closure as the reason for rescheduling essential papers across multiple faculties. Revised dates will be announced soon.

The postponement affects exams in the Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, and Pharmacy faculties, as well as the Centre for Distance & Online Education (CDOE). A university notification has been circulated urging principals of affiliated colleges and the Director of CDOE to inform affected students promptly.

Why the Exam Was Postponed

The Maharashtra govt recently replaced two previous holidays—Dahi Handi (Gopalkala) and Anant Chaturdashi—with Narali Pournima (August 8) and Jyeshtha Gauri Visarjan (September 2) specifically for Mumbai city and suburbs, prompting immediate updates across institutions. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also confirmed a civic holiday for schools and non-essential municipal offices on August 8, aligning with the broader civic observance.

Students and working professionals and distant learners enrolled through CDOE—voiced frustration at the last-minute announcement by the varsity. Many cited logistical and preparatory disruptions, calling for more foresight in aligning academic calendars with festival schedules. MU in its notification has asked students and faculty to stay tuned to university updates and coordinate with their institutions regarding exam preparations.
